A play in London sweeps actress Lylah Stuart into the vortex of wartime Europe, where she finds bittersweet love in the arms of the last man on earth her brothers would approve of. When the men she cares for are pitted violently against one another in the bloody skies of the war, Lylah’s heart is in the crossfire.

Since his first euphoric airborne moment at a local carnival, Lylah’s younger brother Gavin has been addicted to the new mode of transportation called aviation.

Eager to spread his own wings, Gavin gives up waiting for President Woodrow Wilson to enter America into the Great War and joins the French Foreign Legion as a member of the famed Lafayette Escadrilles. After his plane is shot down and he becomes a prisoner of war, Gavin struggles with a hateful vendetta against the most galling of enemies, Baron Manfred von Richthofen — the Red Baron.
