Train Yourself for Godliness

Teens in yellow jerseys practicing soccer drills. Text reads, "Summer 2025, Train Yourself for Godliness"

Verse

1 Timothy 4:7-8

Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.

Lesson

How did you do on the quiz? Were you able to identify the Taylor Swift lyrics? How about the Bible verses? Most people didn’t get many right, but a few Swifties knew not only which ones were the Taylor Swift lyrics, but also the album it is on, who Taylor wrote it about, and even which music video the backgrounds are from! 😮

How do they know all this? Well, looking at my own Swiftie as an example—when she listens to music, she listens to Taylor Swift. When she reads a book or magazine, she reads about Taylor Swift. When she draws or colors, it’s a picture of Taylor Swift. Even the clothes she wears are inspired by Taylor Swift. It’s like her muscle memory now defaults to Taylor Swift!

Why Are We Doing This?

This summer we are going to work on building up our “Spiritual Muscle Memory”.

You may not be into Taylor Swift, but there’s something that interests you. Maybe it’s sports, music, art, etc. You have something that you’ve trained your mind and body to appreciate whether it’s shooting a basketball, painting a picture, or mining in Minecraft.

We want to put the same time and care into building good spiritual habits that we have for our hobbies and interests.

How Are We Doing This?

Starting now, until the end of July, we will be focusing on different areas of our lives where we can work on our spiritual muscle memory. Each week we will give you a new set of tasks that you can complete to earn tickets. You can then use these tickets to try and win prizes!

What Now?

Take a look at the tasks for this week. What are you already doing? What can you start doing? When you complete a task, catch one of your youth leaders on Sunday Morning or Wednesday Night and we’ll make sure you get a ticket!
