Psalm 119:9-11
How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.

Before reading the lesson, watch the video, “Are You SMARTER Than a 5th Grader? 📚🤓🧠 | General Knowledge Quiz”
Lesson
How did you do on the quiz? When we did this during youth group our recent 5th grade grads won. Why? Because they’d spent the last year learning, reading, studying, and discussing these topics!
But, God’s word isn’t something you stop learning about when you finish 5th grade, or middle school, or even high school. We should be storing up God’s word in our hearts, which is a life-long journey!
You may be wondering, how does God’s word get into our heats anyway?
Well I’m glad you asked! We are going to look at three different ways.
Read God’s Word
Bible study and devotionals a great, but sometimes verses can be taken out of context. I recommend that you take time to just read the Bible. There are versions that have been written for ease of reading. While I wouldn’t recommend “The Message” Bible to you for studying (it is an overly simplified translation), it can be helpful to readers because they have abandoned chapter and verse markings so that it reads more like a story. “The Story” also uses a format that aims for ease of reading.
Study God’s Word
If you’re showing up to Youth Group or Sunday Service you’re already off to a good start! Studying with a community of believers give you accountability, but also other believers to help you understand the verses you’ve been reading. But, it’s important to take time to study on your own as well!
This may look different for different students–and that’s okay. You may want to use a devotional which will focus on a different verse or passage each day. Maybe you want to intently study a specific topic and utilize a study guide. The important thing is that you are digging into God’s work and learning more about it!
Memorize God’s Word
Scripture is not helpful if you can’t recall it. That’s why memorizing God’s word is so important!
As you are reading and studying your Bible, be on the lookout for verses and passages that are meaningful to you. These words are ones to store up in your heart. They will aid you in conversations and guide you through difficult situations. You don’t have to look them up because they’re already there, in your heart and in your head.
